Early Potty Training: Tips and Tools

March 29th, 2009   Filed Under Baby Potty Training

Dad holding smelly babyNobody said early potty training will be easy.  After all, almost all 4 month-old infants have very little communication skills to speak of, literally, not to mention the fact that infant potty training can be a hit-and-miss-and-mess affair!

However, there are many tips and a few tools to assist any struggling parent with early potty training.  The trick is in finding the right balance between putting up with the initial mess and putting in the time and patience necessary to achieve concrete results in the long term.

First, it is necessary to closely observe the facial expressions and body language clues that your infant provides just before he/she goes “poo-poo” or “wee-wee”.  Since each infant has a unique repertoire, it is up to the caregiver to study and take note of the signs.

Second, observe the effects of certain foods on the infant’s waste elimination patterns.  This is because certain foods and drinks contain additives that can alter normal bowel movements.  The knowledge of the effects of food helps in developing a regular pattern of elimination, which is a hallmark of early potty training. Potty Training a Baby is Never Too Early

March 28th, 2009   Filed Under Baby Potty Training

Baby to potty trainYou can start potty training a baby without trying too hard but do not expect to have a miniature grown-up rushing to his potty every time there is a need to use the toilet.

Elimination Communication

Potty training a baby can start before baby can walk or talk. Even a three month-old infant can be trained to schedule elimination time and as long as the baby is healthy, you can start his potty training now, towards the big day when he can sit on his potty (which is a while away yet). [More...]

Basics of Infant Potty Training

March 10th, 2009   Filed Under Baby Potty Training

Baby weeing on toiletInfant potty training sounds like a daunting task for those who are unaccustomed to the idea that a child younger than 6 months old can be trained to use the toilet. There may even be the concern that this is something that you shouldn’t do. Be sure, though, that for cultures around the world, even your own, this has been something that has been done successfully throughout history.

Let’s make one thing clear. Calling it “infant potty training” or “infant toilet training” is somewhat of a inaccuracy because you are not really training them to use the toilet on their own nor are you teaching them to control their bladder. What you are doing is what is known as elimination communication, for lack of a better phrase. You, as a parent, are learning to be able to tell when it is that your infant has to pee or poop. The child will then be learning to be notice when it is that they have to go and learning to communicate that they have to go to you. You become better at “listening” to what your infant is trying to tell you and your child gets better at “telling” you what he or she needs. [More...]

What Is Infant Potty Training?

March 10th, 2009   Filed Under Baby Potty Training

Mother and babyInfant potty training is a method that has been used by people all over the globe throughout history to train their baby how to use the toilet at a very early age.

The goal is to have your baby potty trained by the time they are 6 months old. If you think that it is an impossible task, consider that it is being done successfully in over 75 countries worldwide. It hasn’t been a minority of the people who are doing this, either. It has been done by the general populace of those countries for most of their existence. Those countries throughout history have not been using diapers. They have instead learned how to tell when their infant is getting ready to urinate and will move them to the proper place so they can "take care of business". Many times this is done right from the time of birth and diapers or nappies are not used at all and, in fact, are not even available. [More...]

Potty Train an Infant and Reap the Benefits

March 2nd, 2009   Filed Under Baby Potty Training

Baby on towelNowadays, parents are conditioned to think that potty training starts at 2 years.  Research, however, has proven that infants exercise some form of control over their bladder functions, which makes it possible to potty train an infant.

When it is achieved, many benefits are afforded to the parents and guardians.  First, the negative environmental impact of disposable diapers is lessened.  In fact, an average baby will use up to 6,000 diapers for the 30 months before conventional potty training starts. This in turn generates 2 tons of waste that make up the third largest single consumer item that pollutes the Earth!  Add in the fact that it takes 500 years for each diaper to decompose and you have a strong case to potty train an infant.
