Know They’re Ready For Potty Training

toddler for potty trainingIf you have decided that you would like to try potty training, how do you know if they’re ready? The hardest thing about potty training is learning when it is that they have to go. Are they ready at all to be able to tell you that they have to pee or poop? Here are some ways to help you tell if they are ready. This isn’t an all inclusive list and they don’t have to be doing all of them to know. You are looking for an overall sign that they are learning to be independent and an understanding of what is happening when they eliminate.

Physically:

1.    Are they coordinated enough to move around on their own? Can they walk or run? Even if they can crawl, they may be ready.

2.    Are they regular? Do they poop on schedule or at least predictably? Are the stools well-formed? If so, this is a good sign they are ready for it.

3.    Do they urinate a lot at one time or is it just a trickle? Do they fill their diaper when they pee? If they are urinating a fair bit at once, they might be ready.

4.    Are they able to stay dry for decent amounts of time? If they can stay dry for several hours this means that their body is learning how to hold urine in their bladder. This will make it easier. [More...]
