An Older but Better Method of Baby Potty Training
January 1st, 2009 Filed Under Baby Potty Training
There has been much research and development in learning more about infant behavior than ever before. We now know that infants are smarter than previously thought and that they are much more receptive to learning between the ages of birth and 6 months. In the Eastern hemisphere, early baby potty training is common and has been for many years. They use open crotch pants while they are training their babies to use the potty. Many babies are pretty well potty trained by the time they reach 9 months old using the IPT method of potty training. IPT is the abbreviation for Infant Potty Training. As early as birth, many parents in the East begin early potty training by watching their baby’s feeding and potty habits and using that to train them. This method is now being introduced to many other countries and being used by parents.
Training your infant to use the potty early, not only gets you away from the diaper changing scenario, but it is also much less frustrating for you and your child. There is no right or wrong age when it comes to potty training, but early training makes it much easier for all concerned. Look at how a baby gets used to being wet or soiled for a short period of time before you get to change them. Getting to the potty first, will help condition them to want to be clean and dry. Keeping track of your baby’s routine will help you become familiar with his/her potty habits. For instance, watch how long it takes after feeding your baby for him/her to pee and/or poo. This will cue you in for the next time when you can start consistently taking them to the potty chair and letting them get used to it.
Consistency is the key with potty training as with any of the other daily routines of you and your baby. You don’t have to take them to the potty every single time, but as much as possible to "train" their brain into knowing what it feels like to need to potty. Once that is accomplished, the baby will take care of the rest. You could be free from diapers much sooner than you think, and by the time your baby is a toddler, going to the bathroom will be something they naturally want to do.
