Destroying the Sterotypes of the Cloth Diaper
December 23rd, 2008 Filed Under Diapers
For years the cloth diaper carried an inconvenient and unsanitary reputation. This reputation has tainted the use of cloth diapering for decades now. Between the pins, the mess, the washing and the constant changing of a child’s diaper, parents reluctantly changed to disposable diapers over time. Recently, there have been some changes to the cloth diaper that will be putting it back on the market and a great alternative to spending all that money on throw aways.
Growing up most of us remember the cloth diaper. There was the complex fold to shape the bottom of a child perfectly, there was the scary blue diaper pins that pricked quite a few moms back in the day, there were the plastic pants that went over the cloth diaper and of course the big bucket of soap water that dirty diapers soaked in. No wonder why people chose to spend more money on the convenience of disposable diapers.
Today, available primarily on the Internet and at certain stores that sell baby products, you can find the new and improved cloth diaper. You get the positives of saving the environment, incurring less costs, ensuring proper skin care that a cloth diaper offers but you also get the convenience and security of a disposable diaper.
Built and shaped like a disposable diaper, the new cloth diaper has clasps that are safe, waterproof exteriors so no plastic pants are required and they have non threatening designs with color that is safe for a child to wear. It functions exactly like a disposable yet it can be reused over and over.
If you have more than one child or intend to have another child in the future, you can maximize your cloth diaper investment. Spending $400.00 for diapers that will last two children’s diaper days is a serious savings compared to the thousands of dollars normally spent on each one for disposables. Devote your savings to clothes, toys or a college fund for your child rather than throwing it in the garbage.
Once more and more people discover the new and improved versions of the cloth diaper, they will be asking themselves why they ever spent their money on anything else. The only reason someone would choose disposable over cloth is if they didn’t want to do the laundry. Other than that, the clear answer of which diaper is better simply is cloth. Don’t succumb to the stereotypes of cloth until you’ve tried one yourself.
