Choosing Cloth Diapers For Your Baby’s Skin, Your Pocket and Your Environment

Choosing what type of diaper to use on your newborn is a long term decision. Typically, what you decide will be the type of diaper you use for a year or two. Perhaps your decision factor is what is the most cost effective diaper method. Perhaps you want to know which method is the most environment friendly. Maybe you want to choose what is most comfortable for your child. Many of you who care about these three factors will choose a cloth diaper.

Cost effectiveness of using the cloth diaper exceeds that of disposables. Anything that is reusable saves money. Imagine only purchasing 100 cloth diapers rather than nearly 10,000 disposable ones. The savings are astronomical. All they require are a thorough washing to be ready for their next use.

The general health of your child could be better with the use of a cloth diaper. There are no dyes or chemicals in plain cotton and cloth. Between the prints on disposable diapers and the deodorizer used in the absorbent pads, you are subjecting your child’s skin to nonstop interaction with the chemicals used to create them. Also, your child will have less diaper rashes because a cloth diaper permits better airflow.

Of course the cloth diaper method is better for the environment because it doesn’t emit as much waste. You only throw a cloth diaper away when it’s use has been maximized or when your child is fully potty trained.

Keep in mind that with using cloth diapers comes extra work and patience. The washing of diapers could add up to an extra load of laundry per day. Cleaning them may require a few steps prior to even loading them into the washer. Often, desecration on cotton requires soaking for an extended period of time. Do not use bleach because it can irritate or harm a child’s skin. Try baking soda as a cleaning alternative.

Cloth diapers are being modified and recreated to be more efficient. The newest ones on the market are longer lasting, more absorbent, yet still reusable. They are available in different sizes and different shapes. If they are available in color, check to see what type of dye was used and the harmful side effect that can be caused by the color in the diaper.

Overall, cloth diapers are the best way to save money, tend to your child’s skin care and do less harm to the environment. If you don’t mind the extra time required, then this is your best diapering option.
