1.)	Start the potty training process during a warmer part of the year when your child is wearing the least amount of layered clothing. It will be more comfortable for the child, and he or she will be more alert to the feeling of being wet.

2.)	Start the process when you (the parent) have the most amount of free time available. If you’re an accountant then you’ll probably want to wait until after tax season etc… I would dedicate at least a week if not two.

3.)	Don’t start too early. Do not give the child a task her she can not perform on his or her own. This will only give them a sense of failure, and will regress your potty training efforts. On the other hand you don’t want to wait to long either. If their peers are all potty trained and he or she isn’t they may feel social anxiety.

4.)	The parent will feel anger, and disappointed at signs of regression. Avoid showing these emotions to your child at all cost. Hide your emotional responses to mishaps as best you can. Mishaps should be approached with a calm and encouraging approach.

5.)	Start your child with a potty seat instead of a potty bin. It’s cleaner and it’s more toilet like. Using a potty bin might slow regression to the toilet, and it’s like retraining all over again.

6.)	Sometimes potty training can be a difficult and frustrating task for the child. You should make it fun for them with rewards, and emotional support. One of the best ways you can encourage them is by purchasing a potty training DVD. The one linked above is a musical, and every child I’ve come across has loved it.

by: Danna Henderson

When your eCommerce business grows to the point where you can no longer package and ship the orders yourself, it’s time to begin outsourcing your order fulfillment. Although all order fulfillment centers offer the same basic services, their individual methods and costs will help you choose one over the other. When selecting an order fulfillment service, keep the following in mind:

Location

Order fulfillment warehouses are located all over the country. It’s more important to select a warehouse that is close in proximity to your customers than to select one that is close to your business. For example, if your warehouse is located in California, and most of your customers are located on the East coast, your shipping rates will be higher than if you had a warehouse located in Kansas. Fulfillment centers located in the middle of the country will be able to ship to both the east and west coast for similar prices.

Size

Fulfillment warehouses range from small business with just a few employees to large companies such as UPS. Select a fulfillment service that can meet your daily order fulfillment needs. Do you have consistent orders each day or do your orders spike? If you have orders that spike, be sure to choose a fulfillment center that can handle the extra workload and still ship the orders within the agreed timeline.

Shipping Options

Most fulfillment centers offer a variety of shipping options. Make sure the fulfillment service you select offers all of the shipping options you currently offer your customers and the shipping options that you may want to offer in the future.

Turn-around Time

Each fulfillment warehouse has it’s own policy regarding order processing. For example some fulfillment centers will ship all orders that arrive before 1pm on the same business day. If you miss the 1pm deadline, the order is shipped the next business day. This could impact your customers if a next-day order is placed after 1pm. In this case, next day shipping turns out to be two-day shipping.

Order Entry

Order entry methods can be very important when considering a fulfillment service. The most common methods include:

Forwarding individual order invoices to the warehouse
Entering each order on the fulfillment center’s web-based system
Emailing an Excel spreadsheet with all order once a day

Each method has a different affect on your business. For example, you may save money by manually entering orders into a web-based application, but it can be tedious if your business grows to the point where you have more orders than you have time to enter. You may pay a higher price to automatically email each individual invoice to the warehouse, but it may be worth the extra costs to have orders may be shipped as they arrive. Same day shipping could give you the edge over your competitor. On the other hand, if you have a high volume of orders, you won’t want to individually enter each order into a web-based system and may not want to pay the extra charge of having individual orders emailed to the warehouse. If you don’t mind shipping the next business day, you can send an Excel spreadsheet containing all of your orders once a day. Choose a warehouse that offers an order entry method that meets your business needs and fits your budget.

Communication

Communication is an important part of every business. There will be times when you need to contact the fulfillment center to modify a customer’s address or cancel an order. Select a fulfillment center that is available via phone and email. You should not have to wait more than a few hours for a return email or call from the fulfillment center.

Error Rate

Mistakes will happen. Some customers will receive the wrong items or the items will be shipped to the billing address rather than the shipping address. When interviewing potential fulfillment centers, ask about their error rate and their process for remedying the situation. For example, do they issue UPS call tags to pick up the incorrect item and pay to ship a replacement item? Will they ship the replacement item at a faster rate to compensate the customer?

Costs

Each fulfillment center operates under a different payment schedule. Some use sliding scales and require contracts while others charge per order or per item with no contracts. You will also be charged a base fee to store your inventory at the warehouse and an additional fee per pallet or per item. Be sure you have a clear understanding of the fulfillment center’s costs and any contracts.

When choosing a fulfillment center, create a checklist of the features you would like. Interview a member of the warehouse staff, as well as, their references to make sure the warehouse will meet the needs of your growing eCommerce business. When you outsource order fulfillment, the time that you normally spend packaging orders, managing inventory, and dealing with returns, can now be focused on growing your business. Use this time to expand your product line, enhance your online image, promote your business or expand into new markets.

Being "Part-Time Diaper Free" is perhaps a more accurate term, as you use nappies some of the time, or training pants during diaper-free time. You can certainly use diapers or other reusable cloth options as backup between potty visits. … Discovering how to practice some EC skills with your baby will help you use fewer diapers in a gradual, natural way. Begin by offering your baby the potty when they wake up; often the need to pee wakes them, as it does us! … Read More…

Are You Meeting ALL Your Child’s Basic Needs?
by: Frank McGinty

This may come as a surprise, but many parents are unaware of
the full extent of their child’s basic needs.

Do you remember the old song by Lennon and McCartney about
the girl leaving home after ‘living alone for so many
years’? The parents were desolate. They’d given her
everything money could buy – so how could she possibly have
been lonely and unhappy?

Clearly, there were some needs that just weren’t being met
at home, so the girl upped and left.

What are these basic needs we must be aware of if we’re to
be effective parents?

There are four categories: physical, emotional, intellectual
and spiritual.

So often people overestimate the first category, physical
needs – but let’s not underestimate them either! We all need
food and drink, warmth, clothing and shelter to protect us
from the elements.

These will sustain life, but by themselves they won’t
promote positive relationships. Some parents, however,
shower their kids with material things in order to over-
compensate for the other areas.

And we all know that, despite their wealth, many of these
same kids are miserable. Their other needs are just not
being met.

Probably the most obvious of these other needs is emotional
in nature.

Love and affection are vital, but there’s more to it.

Children need constant reassurance! When our personalities
are forming we are on the lookout for feedback, so that we
know what to accept and what to reject.

We also form our picture of ourselves from the feedback we
get from others, especially those who have ’significant’
roles in our lives: parents first, then siblings, relatives,
teachers, friends and so on.

A child doesn’t really know what to make of himself until
that feedback comes in.

And they make value judgements so quickly! ‘Hey, I’m
pretty good at this, everbody tells me so!’

Or how about, ‘Yeah, I guess I’m a pretty stupid, useless
person. They always laugh at me. That’s if they take any
notice at all!’

As a parent it’s easy for you to praise the child who’s
doing well, but the child who’s struggling needs as much -
and possibly more – praise and encouragement. Yet so often
we overlook this.

If you take the time to listen to your kids, to take their
interests and ideas seriously – even if they seem petty,
trivial or irrelevant – then you are investing heavily in
your children’s emotional well-being.

Although many parents are becoming aware of the emotional
needs of children, some are a bit hazy when it comes to
their intellectual needs.

There’s still a perception that those kids who do well at
school just happen to be the ‘brainy’ ones.

Yet a wide body of research suggests that school or
‘academic’ success will be determined by a child’s positive
self-image AND by the stimulation and interaction the child
receives at home.

These affect the thought-processes of the child, and the
thought-processes (HOW the child thinks) are the tools used
in learning.

Kids who perform well at school consistently come from homes
where there’s a lot of mental stimulation through play, a
variety of experiences, and interaction through discussion
and conversation.

Finally, if intellectual needs are hazy, there appears to be
downright confusion over spiritual needs.

That children have spiritual needs comes as a shock to some
parents, and others hotly dispute this need. This seems to
be because most people associate spiritual needs with
religion, but they are not necessarily related to religious
beliefs.

It’s generally accepted in modern educational and clinical
psychology that we all have spiritual needs.

It’s helpful to make your kids aware that there are greater
forces and powers at work in nature and in the universe, and
that our lives work best when we are in harmony with these.

You can meet your kids’ spiritual needs by participating in
your religion, but also by fostering a sense of awe and
wonder about the grandeur of the world.

Teach your children to respect nature and the life force
that permeates it.

On to this can be built an appreciation of the diversity and
variety of human lives and customs.

As a result your kids will grow up with a value system,
which when followed will lead to contentment and happiness.

A well-rounded individual, then, is one who’s needs are met

Being a first time father has its precious moments. Everyone at some point that has a little one goes through potty training. My daughter, bless her heart, mimicked everything she saw, right down to using the potty. Not having to use a lot of imagination, you should get a clear picture of what I am referring to. She decided that since Daddy stood at the toilet to potty, that is how she would do it too!! What I have learned is it is not as easy as pointing to the bathroom and expecting instant results. Here are some pointers for parents out there fully immersed in the act of potty training.

Unfortunately, not all toddlers are created equal. Training your toddler is not going to be the same as your next door neighbor or even similar to your older child’s potty training. There really is no magic number to when things will “click”, so your patience is a number one priority. If you are calm and positive about the whole potty experience, it will help your chances for success.

Since toddlers are so influenced by their surroundings, it is a great idea to model proper procedures for potty training. Going through the motions with a favorite stuffed doll or animal – from sitting down to washing their hands after they are done – will help immensely. Reward the stuffed animal just as you will reward your toddler. With your toddler, share in the celebration of a successful potty trip for their stuffed toy. Once they view going to the bathroom as a positive experience, how can they not want to do it?

Stress can play a huge part in training your toddler as well. Sometimes the atmosphere around the home is not conducive to potty training. Stresses in and around the home might include illness, a new environment, or the arrival of a newborn. Only once the stresses are at a minimum, and your toddler can focus, is potty training going to be successful.

Everybody poops, and your toddler is just beginning to understand that he does too, as well as where he needs to do so. Potty training is a huge event in your child’s life. It’s one more transition to being a big kid now, and it should be a positive experience for you and your child.

I bet you never thought the struggle for independence with your child would start as early as his toddler years, but low and behold, here you are potty training and struggling to determine whose the boss all at once. Don’t be discouraged your toddler doe still need you. He/She just also wants to establish a sense of individuality. So how are you going to teach your two year old rebel to use the potty? Positive reinforcement.

Positive reinforcement can be achieved in many ways. Here’s some general ideas to get your started.

- Purchase a super cool potty chair for your child that makes going to the potty special. Get them accustom to the chair by letting them sit on it while you read them stories. This will make moving to the next step much easier.

- Place your toddlers diaper contents into the toilet while he watches, and explain that this is where it should go. let him/her flush the toilet so they understand how this big kid tool works.

- Read books to your toddler about potty training and using the toilet.

- Praise your child when he/she uses the potty successfully. be sure to let them know their doing a great job without comparing them to other siblings or over doing to add pressure. You could even consider setting up a reward system. A stick chart that earns small prizes for example.

- Let your child pick their own new undies out at the store, and once they’ve had some success let them wear them. They won’t want to dirty them, and it will add motivation to learn to use the potty.

- Lastly if your child does have an accident be sure to reassure them that it happens to everyone, and that they can do better next time.

Keeping a positive attitude will make potty training your child easier on both of you. Not to mention many of these ideas for positive reinforcement will help prepare your child for potty training to make it less intimidating, while the positive reinforcement will give them the motivation they need to succeed!
