Infant Potty Training: How Big A Commitment?
March 29th, 2009 Filed Under Baby Potty Training
In considering to do infant potty training, you may be concerned with the amount of time that it will take. Be sure that any potty training will take time. Whatever the amount of time you have to commit to infant potty training, you will still be able to see benefits.
Ideally you would want to be able to spend as much time as you can in watching your baby to know what their elimination patterns are. You will want to spend a lot of time watching for those moments and making sure that they have quick access to the toilet. Doing this will enable you to let them go without diapers quickly which can aid the process of learning immensely because you can get them over the toilet quicker.
If you are able to be full time in your commitment to infant potty training, you will know sooner how best to get the desired result. If you can’t take this challenge on full time, however, you will still want to do it as much as you can. Even a part time commitment will see great benefits. You will most likely need to keep diapers on them but you and the infant will still be able to learn to communicate about having to go potty.
Even though you may need to use a diaper, try to find some days during the week that you can allow them to go diaper free. The moments of success will be infrequent but still you will be making great progress towards your goal of infant potty training. At a later point, when the child is more able to let you know that they have to peep or poop, you may be able to go longer periods of time diaper free.
If you are simply just curious but don’t feel you are able to commit much to the effort at this point, just allow for some diaper free times throughout the day. It doesn’t have to be a designated time. It can be times that they have their diaper off anyway. If you are giving them a change, allow them a period of time to go without it and watch them to see what they do. Before or after bath time is also a great time to let them go diaper free. If you see any of the signs that they have to go, gently and calmly hold them over the toilet or wherever it is you would like for them to eliminate and let them go.
This will be successful quicker if all in your household are on the same page. Try to let everyone know what you are doing and try to get them to help by either telling you when the infant is about to go or, if they are old enough, big enough, and reliable enough, let them help you.
No matter what level of commitment you are able to have or how much help you can get from others in the household, any effort you make will be good enough and will help you in getting your infant potty trained.
